Pre-K and Kindergarten
Pre-K and KINDERGARTEN
Our pre-k and Kindergarten classes allow the younger children to observe and experience various festivals and projects. The older children are given extra developmentally-based artistic and practical projects and responsibilities.
With a predictable daily rhythm, in a world of play, imagination, fantasy, nature, beauty, and purposeful work, children are provided the fundamentals for emotional, social, creative, cognitive, and physical development.
Purposeful tasks such as preparing snacks, caring for the room, and gardening help the children develop an understanding and appreciation for the importance of group collaboration and self-discipline. Cooperative games serve to enhance cognitive functions while teaching children to respect boundaries and follow directions. Focused verses, songs, puppet shows, fingerplays, and storytelling help to strengthen the child’s ability to listen and focus, expand language development, foster cognitive retention, and create the foundation for long-term literacy. Movement and circle participation help improve physical coordination and dexterity, and quietly build capacities for the understanding of mathematical concepts.
Children engage in daily outdoor activities in all elements, which includes gardening, tree-climbing, jump-roping, building, sculpting, and hands-on sensory play, all of which builds strong bodies and a connection to the natural world and each other.
A snack is prepared and provided by the teachers; parents supply their child with a healthy lunch from home.
Children move into the second phase of childhood at the age of six or seven. This change is marked by a new readiness for formal learning. New intellectual abilities are nurtured, continuing to empower the imagination and creativity in the early grades.
